A Heathrow Express boss has been named Rail Manager of the Year after heroically saving a passenger's life while on his shift.

Brian Keenan scooped the title at the RailStaff Awards after he put his first aid training into action when a male passenger stopped breathing for almost seven minutes.

Brian, who has been with Heathrow Express for 11 years, said: “I didn’t expect to win.

"I’d like to thank the people I work with.

"The onboard staff member made a call to the driver who made the decision to come to the airport because he knew that at 5.30am on a Saturday morning that would be their best chance for survival."

Brian performed CPR and used a defibrillator on the male passenger on an inbound train from London Paddington, causing paramedics to praise him on his life-saving actions.

Colleague Brian Timmins said: “His courage, confidence and bravery quite simply brought back a life. I have not witnessed this before during my 10 years at Heathrow Express.

“Brian should be enormously proud of his achievement here, which made the difference between life or death.”

The national awards received around 1,200 nominations and Brian collected his award in front of 1000 guests who attended on Saturday (October 10).

The award was presented by Amey’s Lee Jones, who said: “Amey is proud to support these awards and recognise the amazing contributions made by the unsung heroes of our industry.

“We’re particularly pleased to sponsor the Rail Manager of the Year Award which highlights the great work and achievements of those who have taken on very demanding leadership roles.

"Congratulations to all nominees and winners.”

Now in its ninth year, the 2015 event was held at Coventry's Ricoh Arena with an Out of Africa’theme.
