Time is running out for people to have their say on Crossrail 2 plans.

The public consultation into the controversial rail line stretching across the capital will close on Friday (January 8).

Under Transport for London (TfL) proposals, a new station will be built in Chelsea on King’s Road at the junction of Sydney Street , and cost an estimated £1 billion.

However, opposition to it is strong, with a range of celebrities ranging from Good Life actress Felicity Kendal, TV Chef Loyd Grossman and Dire Straits legend Mark Knopfler all coming out against the proposals.

The No Crossrail in Chelsea campaign has collected thousands of names in a petition, and the Royal Brompton Hospital has also expressed concern at the plans and stated its intention to oppose the new Chelsea station.

The public consultation began on October 27 and is looking at all aspects of the proposals, including a new station planned at Victoria .

TfL says Crossrail 2 would serve central London through an underground tunnelled section between Wimbledon and Tottenham Hale and New Southgate, connecting with existing National Rail networks in Surrey and Hertfordshire, and helping relieve increasing pressure on London’s transport network.

Current proposals would see Crossrail 2 services become operational in 2030.
