Landowners could be forced to sell up to make way for a major housing development in Brentford .

Hounslow Council 's cabinet agreed on Tuesday (December 15) to use compulsory purchase orders (CPO) if necessary to secure the land between the High Street and the waterfront which is needed for 876 new homes.

The council says it and developer Ballymore already own the majority of the land needed, but a handful of properties have yet to be acquired.

These include the Paddy Power shop, Natwest Bank and Post Office buildings, a storage shed and two flats within County Parade.

Cabinet members approved in principle to use compulsory purchase powers to secure those sites if no agreement can be reached with the owners by the end of March next year.

Should that be necessary, a detailed report about any proposed CPOs would be presented to cabinet and to full council in due course.

The riverside development was approved by the council in November last year but local businesses and residents recently expressed their frustration that work had yet to begin one year later.
