Kensington MP Victoria Borwick has shown her support to the black cab industry by attended the launch of the Licensed Taxi Drivers Association (LTDA) Better for London Campaign.

It is calling on the government to give Transport for London (TfL) the power to cap the number of Private Hire Vehicles (PHVs) in London, and champions the benefits of taxis while raising awareness of the longer-term impact of unfettered growth in PHV numbers in London.

The campaign argues that the black cabs are environmentally friendly , wheelchair-accessible and guide dog-friendly, and comprehensively insured.

It comes as use of Uber has significantly grown this year.

Earlier this year, the smartphone app was subject to a high court battle over whether it operated in the same way as meters used by more strictly regulated black cabs to calculate fares. The judge deemed it lawful.
