John McDonnell is inviting residents to hear about the 'disastrous' effects a third runway could have on those living in his constituency.

Stop Heathrow Expansion (SHE) organised the meetings as they say Hayes and West Drayton will become the new 'front line' in the fight against further Heathrow expansion, if a third runway is given the go ahead.

Mr McDonnell, MP for Hayes and Harlington , said: “I am urging local people to attend our series of public meetings so that they can hear the latest update on the third runway proposal.

“It's critical that our local community is fully alert to this disastrous threat to our homes, schools and communities.

“We cannot stand by and let our environment be destroyed to bolster the profits of the foreign owners of Heathrow Airport ."

'Shocking' air pollution levels recorded

SHE say that the latest pollution maps indicated that it is in these areas that pollution monitors are registering levels above EU limits.

This includes monitors at both Keats Way in West Drayton and the junction of North Hyde Gardens and North Hyde Road in Hayes, which are showing high levels of nitrogen dioxide from traffic, much of which is generated by Heathrow and airport-related businesses

Christine Taylor of SHE said: "The high levels of pollution recorded in West Drayton and Hayes are shocking.

“It’s scandalous that the airport hasn’t resolved this serious issue but continues to push for a third runway.

“Our public meetings will give residents a chance to take action.”

There are three meetings you can attend, where Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell will be amongst the speakers.
