Harrow Councillor James Bond donned his finest 007 tux to launch the first ever hospice to hospice walk with a spy themed fundraiser.

In memory of his mother Margaret, the event set up by councillor Bond will commemorate the anniversary of her death with a walk between two hospices he said are "close to his heart".

Michael Sobell Hospice , where Margaret was cared for, is an 8 mile walk from St Luke's Hospice, where the councillors close friend and former Harrow Times Editor Charlie Harris was looked afer.

The route is due to take place next month and will see participants walk from Kenton to Northwood in memory of friends or family members lost to cancer.

Councillor Bond said: "My mother was cared for at the Michael Sobell Hospice in the weeks leading up to her passing and I can't thank them enough for the kindness they gave, not only to my mother but to my brother and father at such a sad time."

He added: " I also want to acknowledge and support St Luke’s Hospice, who give so much care and devotion to the terminally ill and their friends and family."

To help launch the walk, Chief Executives of St Luke’s and Michael Sobell Hospice, Robin Webb and Lindsey Fealey, joined Councillor Bond in dressing up as characters from the James Bond films.

Robin Webb said: "It’s an opportunity for our teams to work together which I think is the start of something new and exciting going forward."

Community and Events Fundraiser of Michael Bell Hospice Trish Mule added: "Every fund raiser is a huge event for us.

"Walking brings awareness for us which is so important and anything raised directly helps us fund the hospice."

This is the second fundraiser the councillor has set up for Michael Sobell Hospice in memory of his mother.

In 1987, Councillor Bond set himself the task of trying to visit every tube station in a day.

His efforts saw £23,000 raised for Macmillan Cancer Support and Michael Sobell Hospice.

The walk is due to take place on Saturday November 28 at 10.30am. To register for the free walk, visit www.stlukes-hospice.org/hospice2hospice or call 020 8382 8112.
