A knifeman who left a 26-year-old for dead and a community shocked has been jailed for 10 years.

Mohad Mohamed stabbed his victim twice in the chest, leaving him critically injured in Isleworth on July 14 last year .

It is believed he only survived because of first aid given at the scene, in Richmond Road near the junction with South Street, by members of the public.

Mohamed, 20, had originally be charged with charged with attempted murder but pleaded guilty to wounding with intent to cause GBH at Kingston Crown Court on January 11 before being sentenced at the same court on Friday (February 10).

Police say the random and unprovoked attack left the victim critically injured, and needing life-saving surgery at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington .

They were called to the scene at 11.35pm and found the injured man bleeding heavily and being helped by passers-by.

Speaking shortly after the attack, members of the community spoke of their disbelief to getwestlondon . A publican, who asked not to be named, said: “It’s shocking. Normally it’s very safe, quiet and peaceful around here.”

Tom Joyce, who runs South Street Coffee and Ice Cream Shop, said: “Everyone’s very shocked. It’s so close to home and you wouldn’t expect that to happen around here.”

Forensic examination of items found at the crime scene lead to Mohamed’s arrest on July 22 he was later interviewed and bailed pending further enquiries.

The victim attended an identity parade in August and positively identified Mohamed, known to him as “Little M”, as the person that had stabbed him.

On September 2, Mohamed, from Holdernesse Close in Isleworth , was charged with attempted murder and remanded in custody until trial.

Detective Constable Tony Williams, from Hounslow CID, said: “This was a shocking attack for no apparent reason which left the victim with severe life-threatening injuries.

“If it wasn’t for the quick-thinking members of the public that rushed to his aid, it’s very likely that the victim would have bled to death.

“The lengthy sentence handed to Mohamed reflects the seriousness of the offence and the injuries he caused.”
