A dawn raid on a three-bedroom property in Brent found 35 men living inside.

Enforcement officers and Brent police entered the semi-detached house in Winchester Avenue, Queensbury at around 6am on Tuesday (September 19) following complaints from neighbours.

The house was packed wall-to-wall with mattresses, which the men living there, all of eastern European origin, had piled into every room except the bathrooms.

In just one room, eight men were found to be sleeping side-by-side on adjacent mattresses.

Even the kitchen contained a sleeping area and one mattress was laid out under a canopy in the back garden.

Images from the property show dozens of shoes piled on top of each other, clothes strewn across radiators, and junk clogging the garden.

Last week, Brent Council voted in new civil penalty measures to fine rogue landlords up to £30,000 for housing law breaches, such as renting out unlicensed properties.

Cllr Harbi Farah, cabinet member for housing and welfare reform, said: "Rogue landlords make their money by exploiting people who can least afford it - it's a shameful practice and this is an especially shocking example.

"Any landlord treating their tenants unfairly should be in notice - we're coming for you."

An investigation is under way to track down the landlord of the unlicensed House in Multiple Occupation (HMO).
