About 300 people were evacuated from a hotel in Mayfair this evening after a fire broke out above a Mayfair hotel which is home to the exclusive restaurant Nobu.

Firefighters were called to the blaze on scaffolding outside the Metropolitan by COMO London hotel in Old Park Lane shortly after 5pm.

Station manager Clive Robinson said around 300 people, including 120 employees, were evacuated before the London Fire Brigade arrived.

He added that nobody was injured and the fire, which damaged a small section of the building's fascia, was under control by 6.30pm.

A spokesman for the brigade said the cause of the fire was not known at this stage.
