Police searching for a property in Shepherd’s Bush for an elderly woman missing for 15 years have found human remains at the scene.
The grim discovery was made at Tunis Road on Wednesday (January 28), following an extensive search by police and forensic officers .
They had been at the address since Monday (January 23) after the woman, who was around 75 at the time of her disappearance, was reported missing to police by a member of staff at Hammersmith and Fulham Council only last month.
The Metropolitan Police had earlier said a search of the property was “likely to take to take some time due to the condition of the property”.
They say formal identity may take some time but believe they know who the deceased is and have informed next of kin. At this early stage the death is being treated as unexplained and a post mortem examination will be arranged in due course.
The council said it is assisting police with its investigation.
