The minister responsible for HS2 was on hand in Ealing last month (April 28) to hear the concerns of residents and businesses unhappy with the high speed rail plans.

Following a request from Ealing Central and Acton Labour MP Rupa Huq, Robert Goodwill MP visited Park Royal, Wells House Road, Stephenson Street and Midland Terrace.

Dr Huq arranged the visit to the areas, which she claims will be most affected by noise and disruption, so that residents and businesses could express their concerns face-to-face.

Mr Goodwill, a Conservative MP, is the minister of state at the Department for Transport and is responsible for HS2.

Amanda Souter, chair of the Wells House Road Residents' Association, urged the government to listen to their concerns following the visit.

She said: "It’s always seemed to us as though no one from the government or HS2 is really listening to our concerns.

"Even when we are given assurances, they’re terribly vague. I am hoping this time will be different."

'Colossal disruption'

Concerns were raised about the construction programme, dirt and dust and the potential of increased traffic in the area.

But Mr Goodwill, along with staff from HS2, was said to have made assurances on local concern as well as the preservation of green space, which Dr Huq has promised to hold him to.

He was also said to have agreed the government needs to support small and medium sized businesses as much as larger businesses.

Speaking after the event, Dr Huq said: "I am grateful to the Minister for accepting my invitation to visit Ealing Central and Acton and see just how badly my constituents, whether residents or businesses, have been treated by HS2.

"Residents from Wells House Road, Stephenson Street and Midland Terrace face colossal disruption to their homes and their lives for years as a result of the building work and yet were dismissed by a HS2 representative when presenting their case in Parliament.

"It is vital that this does not happen again and that the minister now makes good on his visit, I will do all I can to ensure that he does.

"HS2 may be seen as a vital infrastructure project for the future, but the government simply has to recognise the impact it will have on my constituents and acknowledge they must be properly compensated and supported."
