Shepherd's Bush Housing Trust is helping families devastated by flooding in the northern parts of the country .

Its furniture re-use service Furnish is helping ReUse Centre - a charity and a social enterprise in Bedford - which is running a furniture for flooding victims appeal.

Furnish rallied together emergency furniture to assist people being moved into temporary accommodation. Once it arrives at its destination the York (& Selby) Community Furniture Scheme will distribute it.

Pam Sedgwick, director of Furnish said: “We are only too happy to help people who have lost so much in the floods by doing what we do well – fast, efficient delivery of furniture. We usually only deliver within London but we’re supporting this as it will make a huge difference to so many families impacted by this horrendous flooding .

“We will take to the ReUse Centre a full van-load of items they urgently require including armchairs which we receive all the time from the local community and business. It is about us doing what we can to help these people in need.”

Mark J Thompson, chief officer, The ReUse Centre said: “We originally planned to take a load of sofas up north because we have a lot available. However when we talked to the folks on the front line it became apparent that armchairs would be a better solution.

“People are being moved into temporary accommodation which are quite often very small. We sent a tweet out appealing for donations and very quickly heard back from Furnish with a great offer.”

Furnish collects good quality second-hand furniture donated by west Londoners and sells it at affordable prices in its shop in Shepherd's Bush's West 12 shopping centre . It also offers discounts so low income households can furnish their homes.
