Stoptober is under way across the country with support being provided to smokers in Hounslow wishing to stub out for good.

The annual 28-day stop smoking challenge encourages and supports smokers to quit the habit.

According to the NHS if a smoker can stop smoking for 28 day, they are five times more likely to ditch the habit.

Specialist support is on offer to Hounslow residents

Specialist support is being provided to Hounslow residents with the launch of the local NHS improvement service, One You Hounslow which offers smokers support such as free one-to-one text message and email support with a stop smoking specialist.

Weekly drop-in sessions are also available where individuals can have their lung age tested alongside carbon monoxide monitoring and receive medication advice and be provided with medication prescriptions if required.

"Stoptober is the perfect opportunity for all those people who have not yet got around to quitting smoking, to do so now," said Councillor Kamaljit Kaur, cabinet member for adult social care, health services and public health at Hounslow Council.

"In previous years, we have had a fantastic response from residents across the borough who sought help and advice during the Stoptober initiative and managed to give up successfully for good.

"The success of campaigns such as Stoptober, show that more smokers stub out their cigarettes as part of a conscious decision to improve their health.

"Let that be an inspiration to those who are just starting on that journey – you can do it."
