A bus was evacuated in Hounslow after moped riders sprayed a fire extinguisher at the driver, police have now confirmed.

The alarming incident on Whitton Road in Hounslow was the latest in a spate of "chemical-related incidents" to which emergency services have been called.

The Metropolitan Police launched an investigation on Friday (August 11) in response to the incident, but as of Sunday (August 13) no arrests have yet been made.

No-one needed hospital treatment after the incident although the 281 bus driver was treated by paramedics at the scene.

Initial reports claimed a "powdered substance" was thrown at the bus but police later confirmed it was a fire extinguisher which was sprayed towards the driver.

Police, fire crews and the ambulance service attended the incident and the road was closed while they were at the scene.

A spokeswoman for the London Fire Brigade said they were called to reports of "a chemical incident" on Whitton Road in Hounslow.

The Metropolitan Police said enquiries continue.
