A Hounslow man has been jailed for his part in a violent burglary which led to the death of a pensioner.

Stewart Palmer, 29, of Kew Bridge Road, Brentford, was sentenced at the Old Bailey on Thursday (June 9) to 10 years' imprisonment.

He and his half-brother Jason Lewin had also both been found guilty of aggravated burglary at the same court the previous day.

Lewin, 34, of Glenthorpe Road, Morden, was sentenced to 15 years behind bars and was also declared a "dangerous offender", meaning he must serve an additional five years on licence after his release.

Peter Lee, 75, had returned to his home in Tooting on the afternoon of June 1 last year to find two of his sons fighting with a pair of burglars, Lewin and Jonathan Palmer.

The pensioner called police but Jonathan Palmer returned to his car and drove into Mr Lee, causing injuries from which the victim died the following day.

'Burglary was motivated by robbery at cannabis factory'

Lewin and Jonathan Palmer were arrested in the car shortly after the incident, and Stewart Palmer, who had left the scene before Mr Lee entered the house, was arrested several days later.

All three men were charged with murder and aggravated burglary.

Jonathan Palmer, 30, died in HMP Wandsworth whilst on remand.

Members of the jury were directed during the trial to find Stewart Palmer not guilty of murder, and they found Lewin not guilty of the charge on Wednesday (June 8).

Police said Lewin had admitted in court to having been involved in cultivating cannabis.

They said he claimed the burglary that day was motivated by an incident in 2013 when he was robbed at a cannabis factory in Sutton.
