Extra funding has been secured to crackdown on rogue landlords in Hounslow.

A whopping £67,500 grant has been awarded to Hounslow council , following a successful bid to the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG), to rid the borough of unlicensed landlords renting dangerous and unsafe homes.

The money will be used by the council’s specialist rogue landlords team to boost its work to stamp out beds in sheds across the borough.

The funding will be added to the council’s own investment of £197,000 over three years, allowing the team to continue targeting swindling landlords from renting substandard housing to tenants as well as tackling the issue of letting illegal outbuildings and private landlords failure to enter into lawful tenancy agreements.

Councillor Steve Curran, leader of Hounslow council said: “These funds will help us to go further in tackling the blight of rogue landlords who rent out unsafe, illegal and overcrowded properties. We want to let them know it is not acceptable.

“This money, on top of the council’s own investment for the specialist rogue landlords team, will be used to tackle the issues to make sure we can carry on the work we’re doing.

“Our aim as always is to look to improve the quality of life of all our residents by providing through our services, safe, warm and affordable housing in the private housing sector as well as council-owned properties.”

The private rented sector makes up 20% of all private homes in the borough.

The council regulates conditions to ensure that rented properties meet the minimum standards by law.
