Hounslow businesses to work alongside police and council in crime reduction initiative

Safer Business Hounslow is looking to extend its current 60-strong network to include businesses across Feltham, Isleworth, Chiswick and Brentford

Businesses from across Hounslow are being encouraged to join an initiative aimed at reducing crime in the borough.

Safer Business Hounslow, which launched at the Treaty Centre, already has 60 Hounslow members and is looking to extend the network to Feltham, Isleworth, Chiswick and Brentford.

Previously called Hounslow Business Against Crime, the not-for-profit scheme brings together retailers, licensed premises and other businesses alongside CCTV operators, local police and the council in a bid to work together to reduce crime.

Hounslow's shopping centres, the Treaty Centre, Blenheim Centre and The Centre Feltham, are already a part of the scheme.

"Sharing information is key to the success of crime reduction partnerships like Safer Business Hounslow," said chair of Safer Business Hounslow and Treaty Centre manager, Janet Leatherland.

She added: "The more businesses that join up, the more positive results we will see.

"This will benefit Hounslow and our local community."

Members of the initiative will have access to professional training and advice.

Those involved are encouraged to share up-to-date information and are linked by a closed radio system as well as having a secure mobile app which can be used to report incidents as soon as they happen.

In Hounslow town centre, Metropolitan Police figures show 245 crimes were reported in the area in July this year, while the surrounding Hounslow Central policing area had 139 reported incidents during the same month and in Brentford there were 193.

Mayor of Hounslow, Councillor Sue Sampson, said: "A diverse mix of businesses, restaurants and shops come together to make Hounslow such a wonderful and vibrant place to work, shop and live.

"It essential that we all work together to make our borough as safe and successful as we can by supporting and encouraging all our businesses."
