A large police presence, and sirens into the early hours of the morning, caused concern for neighbours of the Battle of Britain Club in Uxbridge .

Several police units attended the RAF club, in Hillingdon Road, used by serving personnel and Royal Air Force veterans , after they were called at 11.26pm on Friday (May 13).

It was reported to police that a large group of people were causing a disturbance at the venue and five people were arrested.

A concerned eyewitness said: “The police kept arriving for over two hours, presumably from other forces - riot police with dogs and everything.

“I was walking home from Uxbridge with my boyfriend at around 11.30pm and just saw a mass of people and people running into small local roads to escape the police. It was pretty scary.

“I live locally and the sirens kept coming until past 1am.”

Another eyewitness tweeted a picture of the scene.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “The group were refusing to leave the premises following the closure of a party and were becoming hostile.

“Several police units attended the scene and the group was dispersed.”

A 30-year-old male, two 18-year-old males, a 17-year-old male and a 17-year-old female were arrested for offences including affray, assaulting an officer, actual bodily harm, criminal damage and possession of cannabis.

They have been bailed to a date in early July.
