West London hospital trusts have stacked up millions in debts which could lead to "nightmare scenario" of A&E services moving away and leaving reduced services in old premises.

The revelation was made after nine Labour MPs from Harrow, Hounslow, Ealing, Brent, Hammersmith and Westminster met senior managers responsible for the controversial Shaping a Healthier Future (SaHF) project to discuss the future of the NHS.

Hammersmith MP Andy Slaughter said: "The financial crisis is dire. All the west London hospitals trusts are in huge debt.

"Imperial’s is running at over £50 million this year."

Last week, Imperial hospital was listed as one of 16 trusts in the country to receive emergency financial help in managing their budget.

The group met a year ago along with the Health Minister and June's meeting was the first update on plans for the hospitals, but have come together once again to discuss imminent budget concerns.

The Labour MP added: "The nightmare scenario – one of four options now being considered – is to leave the existing buildings but close or move the emergency and acute services anyway and try to run the reduced services from partly-mothballed unsuitable premises."

It was collectively agreed there is no long term solution decided as yet, although various options to keep west London hospitals running are being discussed.

Their future will become clearer when the ‘Implementation Business Case’ report is published in September 2016, a report detailing a clearer update after 3 and a half years of no news on the plans.

SaHF have been approached for comment.
