Postcodes marked as "W" in west London saw triple the number of homes sell last year across the boroughs, according to exclusive new figures.

A staggering 55 sales were made in the W1D area in Soho, up 104% than the average number of sales per year in 2014.

Coming in second across the region was Charing Cross, with houses being snapped up in the area two-thirds more than they used to be.

Meanwhile, in the pricey areas of Mayfair and Grosvenor Square, 46 and 91 sales were made respectively, figures almost 55% higher than previous years.

Charing Cross was the second most popular property hotspot where houses are being snapped up fastest

A spokesperson for housing expert G15 said: "With so many new transport developments across west London, the area is seeing a real boom.

"There's also the added bonus of people buying and knowing that if they sell, it will be worth much more at a later date."

The news comes as a recent investigation showed £12 billion worth of homes have been left empty in the city, with almost 1,300 vacant addresses in west London boroughs such as Kensington and Chelsea.

Figures are based on Land Registry data which lists the price paid for every property bought at market value by non-commercial buyers.
