From The Hitman's Bodyguard to Thor and James Bond - West London's famous Hollywood locations revealed in new database

A new database has been made for crews to find the ideal location in west London

West London has played host to many Hollywood blockbuster filming locations, from the Hitman's Bodyguard to Daniel Craig's outings as James Bond .

Now, film crews and movie buffs flocking to west London are having the red carpet rolled out for them, thanks to a new database of locations.

Hammersmith and Fulham and Kensington and Chelsea Councils have drawn together a location library to make filming in the two boroughs easier, and allow fans to delve into its rich entertainment history.

On the big screen 1976 horror classic The Omen was partly filmed in Bishop’s Park, Fulham, with All Saints church providing the backdrop for the grisly scene in which former Doctor Patrick Troughton is speared by a lightning rod.

Recent films shot in the area include Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Diana, Paddington Bear, The Danish Girl, Deep Water Horizon, and the Hitman's Bodyguard, which is out on Friday August 18.

The latter, starring Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L Jackson was also filmed in Harrow.

When BBC TV Centre and Riverside Studios at the height of their powers , film units were regularly found in the borough, shooting odd outdoor scenes, while the studios in H&F churned out Blue Peter, Chris Evans’ TFI Friday, Never Mind the Buzzcocks, Fawlty Towers, The Apprentice and many episodes of Top of the Pops.

The area has long been one of the top choices for film-makers looking for attractive park or river backdrops or a wide range of architectural urban styles, and down the years, hundreds of television shows, videos, adverts and feature films have had scenes shot.

The new database is aimed at location managers, but also makes a fascinating index of cinematic and television high points which is of wider interest.

The new online location library lists 170 different filming hotspots, most familiar to residents, with location booking available at the at the touch of a button.

It includes car parks, tennis courts, churches, markets, leisure centres, housing estates, libraries, cemeteries, golf courses, parks and riverside walks.

The cameras were out in Hammersmith Town recently filming episodes of the 21st series of Silent Witness, while the borough’s numerous backdrops has had starring roles in Absolutely Fabulous, The Bill and New Tricks.

The Crown, about The Queen and Prince Philip , was recently filmed at the Hope & Anchor pub in Hammersmith.

In addition, many episodes of Dr Who were filmed in Hammersmith and Fulham.

"As well as the entertainment of seeing the borough in prime-time dramas, the website also contributes an important revenue stream, helping to improve services and keep council tax low,” said Cllr Max Schmid, H&F Cabinet Member for Finance.

“Every commercial film or TV programme attracted here also helps maintain our award-winning parks and keep our streets looking good. That’s why we want to encourage more film and television production here,” he added.

Among locations on the list is the listed Trellick Tower in North Kensington, White City Estate and beneath the Westway flyover.

Hammersmith and Fulham and Kensington and Chelsea: Captured on film

Blythe House in West Kensington has been used in filming for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and Thor: The Dark World.

The former headquarters of the Post Office Savings Bank is now being used for storage by the Victoria and Albert Museum in South Kensington.

The exterior was used to represent the headquarters of the Circus in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy meanwhile in Thor it was used as the Police Station.

Love Actually. Keira Knightley character lived at 24 St Luke's Mews, Kensington

24 St Luke's Mews is another Love Actually site, the home of Juliet .

Keira Knightley's character lived on the corner of this fashionable Kensington street.

The ensemble A-list cast won several awards following the film's release in 2003.

Brompton Cemetery may surprise you as it has been used in the filming of three blockbuster action movies:

  • Goldeneye,
  • Sherlock Holmes
  • Mission Impossible - Rogue Nation.

1 Stanley Gardens, Notting Hill is the swanky address of Britain's most notorious spy, James Bond .

The stunning building is used as the location of Bond's bachelor pad in 2015's Spectre .

The most expensive Bond film ever made is the last to star Daniel Craig.

In the books by Ian Fleming, James Bond lives in a flat off the King's Road in Chelsea.
