A Hillingdon councillor from Yeading has accomplished a near-superman feat by running a marathon a day on every continent in the world in just seven days.

Labour politician Jagjit Singh took on the charity challenge between January 25 and 31, starting with the Australia Day Marathon in Perth.

Cllr Singh, 58, is raising money for the Mayor of Hillingdon's charity appeal and ran in memory of his mother Ratan Kaur who died of breast cancer.

He told getwestlondo n: It was really tough. Every continent wants something hard.

“I did this as a different challenge.

“My family supported me 100%. That's why I'm doing this challenge away from home.”

Jagjit Singh ran 54 marathons in 2016

Cllr Singh ran 54 marathons last year and has run an astonishing total of 236 in his lifetime, raising £19,000 along the way.

This time around he has raised £600 for the Mayor of Hillingdon's charities – which includes Pield Heath House School, Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals Charity and Harlington Hospice.

The marathons took Cllr Singh from Perth to Singapore, Cairo, Amsterdam, New York, Chile and even Antarctica.

Temperatures reached 40°C in Australia and lows of minus eight in Antarctica.

His best time was in Amsterdam where he finished in an impressive four hours and 36 minutes.
