Anti-Heathrow campaign groups have packed David Cameron’s suitcase full of materials they believe the Prime Minister should read before the Government decides whether to give the airport the go-ahead to build a third runway.

Members of campaign groups including HACAN, Greenpeace and Friends of the Earth were joined by Twickenham MP Tania Mathias and Baroness Jenny Tonge outside parliament on Monday (July 20) to each select an item to put into the PM’s suitcase ahead of the House of Commons' seven-week summer recess.

A climate change book by George Monbiot, a video of Harmondsworth - which faces destruction if Heathrow builds a third runway - and The Transition Handbook were just some of the items selected before the suitcase was wheeled off to Downing Street.

John Stewart, chairman of HACAN, who organised the event, said: “This diverse range of groups gives a flavour of the formidable opposition David Cameron will face if he gives the green light to a third runway.”

The event was organised two weeks after the Airports Commission published its long-awaited report to back Heathrow’s £17bn expansion plan – saying it would provide a £147bn boost to Britain’s economy over 60 years.
