Flights continue to be disrupted for a third day at Heathrow Airport due to the recent snow and adverse weather conditions.

Airlines had previously said the re-positioning of aircraft and crews from previous days was adding to the problems at the busy airport

Passengers took to social media to complain about the latest delays at the airport after snow and ice swept across the UK and much of Europe at the weekend.

At 6am on Tuesday (December 12) Heathrow, where dozens of flights were shelved on Monday, there were 16 departures listed as cancelled for throughout the day.

The airport is advising passengers to check the status of their flight before travelling to the airport.

Heathrow's most recent statement issued at 4.45pm on Tuesday via Twitter read: "Flights to and from Heathrow continue to be affected.

The airport added: "The safety and comfort of our passengers is always our priority and we are working closely with our airlines to ensure affected passengers are looked after.

"We apologise to those whose travel has been impacted and regret the inconveniences that have been caused."
