Heathrow Airport terrorism arrest: Woman detained as searches carried out in north London

Officers arrested the 21-year-old woman after she arrived into the airport on a plane from Istanbul, Turkey

A woman from north London has been arrested on suspicion of terrorism offences at Heathrow Airport as she arrived on a flight from Istanbul, Turkey.

Officers from the Met's Counter Terrorism Command arrested the 21-year-old woman on Thursday evening (June 29).

The woman was arrested at just past 9pm on suspicion of preparation of acts of terrorism under Section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006 and searches have been conducted at two north London addresses.

According to police, the arrest is Syria-related and the woman has been taken to a south London police station where she is being detained under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act.
