An airport security worker from Southall is among four people being questioned in connection with the seizure of around seven kilos of cocaine at Heathrow.

The employee, a 30-year-old man from Southall, and a 37-year-old man from Colombia were arrested in a Terminal 5 airside toilet at around 3.30pm on Thursday (November 23).

Packages containing the cocaine were recovered from the scene by officers from the National Crime Agency.

The drugs would have a value to organised crime of around £250,000, but if cut and sold in the UK could have a potential street value of more than £700,000.

The man from Colombia had recently stepped off a flight from Bogota.

A 43-year-old man was also arrested in the airport's arrivals area, a spokesman from the National Crime Agency said.

Shortly after the arrests, officers from Metropolitan Police carried out a search of an address in east London, where a 46-year-old man was arrested.

Four men were arrested

Darren Barr, senior investigating officer at the National Crime Agency, said: "Heathrow Airport provided invaluable assistance in this operation.

“And working with partners such as the Metropolitan Police Service, Border Force and Heathrow authorities we are determined to target those involved in criminality at the airport.

“Corruption threatens the security of the UK border and the public at large which is why we see it as a priority.”
