Residents in Hammersmith and Fulham are being urged to have their say after being given another chance to tell the government their thoughts on proposals for a third runway at Heathrow .

A consultation has been launched by the Department for Transport and will run until December 19 .

It was comes as cardboard aeroplanes were planted in Ravenscourt Park in protest at the proposed runway.

The new consultation follows the publication of crucial passenger forecast information which had not been available first time around, with residents able to take this on board and have their say again.

Cllr Wesley Harcourt is head of environment, transport and residents’ services at Hammersmith and Fulham Council .

He said: “We remain firmly opposed to plans for a third runway at Heathrow.

“Our resident-led Commission on Aircraft Expansion investigated the third runway proposals and concluded, in its 2015 report, that they would have harmful effects on local noise and air quality and increase local congestion.

“I am pleased residents are being given the chance to review this important new information and make informed views on how a third runway would affect their lives.”

In addition to the passenger forecast information, the new consultation presents new evidence on a wide range of key impacts, including new forecasts of noise, CO2 emissions, air pollution and the impacts of expansion on other UK airports.

The announcement of the revised consultation came on the same week Heathrow protesters marked one year since the government agreed expansion at the airport over Gatwick .

In recognition of this anniversary and the 700 extra daily flights a new runway would bring, 700 cardboard aeroplanes were planted at sites along the proposed new flightpaths by local protesters.

In Ravenscourt Park, members of protest group h&f No Third Runway made their stand.

“There is deep and heartfelt opposition to any further expansion of Heathrow,” said Victoria Timberlake, the group’s co-chair.

“Seven hundred extra flights each day can only bring more misery to the hundreds of thousands of Londoners living under current flightpaths, as well as new misery to communities overflown for the first time.”

A resident-led Hammersmith & Fulham Commission on Airport Expansion was set up by the council in November 2014.

It was asked to look at the local impact of airport expansion and heard evidence from local residents and businesses, before concluding that negative effects on the borough from expansion would outweigh the positive benefits.

The government will publish its response to both consultations after this period of further consultation.
