Bomb threats led to a Hayes primary school being evacuated on Monday (May 23) as it was one of many across the UK to be targeted by threatening phone calls.

Police swept Charville Primary School with sniffer dogs after pupils were evacuated on Monday afternoon, causing confusion and terror among parents.

The Met Police has now confirmed that the school can reopen as normal and that a full investigation into the incident will take place.

At least 25 schools across the country were also evacuated after receiving anonymous phone calls.

One teacher told the Mirror Online that the caller had threatened to shoot pupils and detonate a bomb.

Thousands of pupils from primary and secondary schools from Kent to Newcastle had been evacuated during the course of the day after police responded to the threats.

It was initially thought that the calls were isolated to a small number of schools in Kent but reports have emerged of disruption across the country.

Charville Primary school is thought to be the only school in London affected by the incident, with Cranmere Primary School in Esher, Surrey, the nearest one to also receive a call.

In February, bomb threats were made at six schools in Birmingham, alongside additional threats in Glasgow.

Police in Paris and Sydney were investigating similar incidents.
