Businesses near Station Road in Hayes said they were taken aback as the London Air Ambulance landed near Blyth Road to treat a man following an assault.

Nearby shop workers close to the station exit said they could not get near their workplaces as heavy traffic built up when the helicopter landed on Wednesday (February 22) morning.

A staff member at the Dental Practice told getwestlondon: "It was all blocked off before we had even got to work and there was heavy traffic."

Resident Narendra Sharma, who lives above the row of shops on Station Road, said: "We were taken aback, the day had barely begun and there was a large area taped off by the police.

"We didn't even know what had happened and it's not a good feeling right outside your doorstep."

However, an employee of 24/7 Cabs, just beside the crime scene, said: "This has happened a few times, there's always crime in Hayes and it's not the first time we have seen police here like this."

A London Air Ambulance spokesman told getwestlondon: "Our advanced trauma team were dispatched via aircraft at 8.03am this morning to an incident in the Hayes area.

"Following treatment they were transported to a major trauma hospital by road with the London Ambulance Service, accompanied by London’s Air Ambulance medics."

The Metropolitan Police was called by the London Ambulance Service (LAS) at 8am to reports of a man injured in Blyth Road.

The man was found to have suffered a head injury and taken to a west London hospital where his condition is yet to be determined.

Police remain on the scene to "investigate the assault" as they try to determine how he obtained the injury.

An officer from Hayes Met Police told getwestlondon: "Regarding the incident today, there's been an assault in Hayes Town Centre.

"There are cordons in place whilst police investigate."

No arrests have yet been made.
