A policeman from Hayes had to be taken to hospital after a member of the public bit and cut him and left him with bruises, according to police

Two people have been arrested in connection with the incident which saw the patrol officer confront a 'hostile anti-police crowd' in Botwell.

The officer was sent to an address in Botwell Lane, near Botwell Green Leisure Centre at around 6.08pm on Thursday (May 12), after reports that a number of people had gained access to a property.

The patrol officer found nobody at the address but shortly afterwards, approached two people and was surrounded by what Hillingdon Borough police described as a "large, hostile anti-police crowd".

The officer called for back up and was later treated at the scene by London Ambulance Service for bruising to the forearm and cuts and bruising to his face before being taken to a south London A&E.

He has since been discharged and the investigation into the incident continues.

A 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of anti-social behaviour, and a 39-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent.

Both currently remain in custody at a west London police station pending further enquires.

Well-wishers from across the country responded to a tweet from Hillingdon MPS about the incident, offering their hopes for the officer's speedy recovery.
