A Hayes man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the discovery of a woman's body.

The body was found in a lay-by in Amersham Road A413, Gerrards Cross, on Tuesday (June 23).

Police were called at 8.36am to reports of a body found by a passing motorist.

Officers arrested a 50-year-old man from Hayes on suspicion of murder.

Detectives from the Major Crime Unit are continuing to follow a number of enquiries to establish the circumstances of the woman's death.

The body of the woman has yet to be identified and next of kin have not yet been informed.

A post-mortem examination is due to take place on Wednesday (June 24).

Police Supt Yvette Hitch said: "Officers are at the scene working to establish the circumstances surrounding the death of woman.

"We are in the very early stages of our investigation and a scene watch is in place.

"I would like to speak to anyone who has any information about this incident or who may have seen anything out of the ordinary in the area - please call 101 as soon as possible.

"Officers from the local neighbourhood team are making house-to-house enquiries and patrolling locally to provide reassurance. If anyone has any concerns, please feel free to approach an officer."
