Labour MP for Harrow West Gareth Thomas has announced his bid in next year's London mayoral election.

The former minister announced his application to represent Labour for London Mayor on Friday (May 15) after being re-elected as MP for Harrow West in this year's General Election.

The politician received a 47% share of the vote, winning by a small minority over Tory candidate, Hannah David.

The politician is hoping to push more devolution of power to London if he is elected as mayor, as well as grant the city control over its own minimum wage.

Gareth Thomas joins MPs Diane Abbott and Sadiq Khan, former Labour minister Tessa Jowell, and Christian Wolmar in the race to be London's next mayor, taking over from Boris Johnson.
