Harrow's Police Borough Commander has spoken out about the recent "unusual" stabbings and shooting to reassure residents.

Borough Commander Simon Ovens, of the Harrow Metropolitan Police, issued a video statement explaining a theme these incidents have in common, and telling the public that the police are dealing with these offences "robustly".

It comes after four men were stabbed outside Harrow-on-the-Hill tube station in the early hours of Sunday (July 9) morning.

The following weekend, a huge fight broke out in Locket Road, Wealdstone, on Sunday (July 16) before a man was "recklessly shot" in the back later in the night on the same day.

Addressing these incidents, Borough Commander Simon Ovens said: "The last few weeks have seen some particularly violent, and for Harrow, very unusual incidents.

"The common theme in all of them is that the parties involved were invariably known to each other.

"In Wealdstone, this is about drug dealing, and in the town centre, some extremely drunken people taking each other on at 3am in the morning.

"While this doesn't make you fear crime any less, it does mean that your chances of becoming a victim yourself of these offences are incredibly small.

"Drug dealers are sorting out one another to take command of the streets."

Borough Commander Ovens also commended his officers for immediately dealing with the incidents.

He added: "I give you my assurance that although Harrow continues to be the safest borough in London, we will never, ever, give up the fight against drug dealers and these violent people who come to our streets."

Anyone who witnessed the incidents, or has information that may assist police, should call Harrow CID via 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
