A Harrow man found himself up against the might of supermarket giant Aldi after it was found he 'abusively' registered a web address using the company's name.

The budget chain, which has recently opened a new shop in Eastcote , objected after Anthony Madden, of Nibthwaite Road, registered the internet domain name aldibingo.co.uk for himself.

Aldi took the case to internet watchdog Nominet after they claimed that Mr Madden should not use the address, claiming that it should instead be transferred to them.

An expert from Nominet, the UK's domain dispute resolution service, James Bridgeman, decided in the company's favour and ordered that the domain be transferred to Aldi.

Speaking of the decision, Mr Bridgeman said: "The complainant has, to my reasonable satisfaction, shown that the domain name aldibingo.co.uk is an abusive registration."

This is one of a number of objects that the supermarket had in relation to domain names, recently winning decisions at Nominet of domain names such as aldienergy.co.uk and shoppinglistforaldi.co.uk.
