A man from Harrow has been jailed after being found guilty of possession of heroin with intent to supply.

Saeed Hersi, 30, of Courtnay Avenue, was found guilty and sentenced to four years and six months in prison at Harrow Crown Court on Wednesday (August 5), according to a Met Police statement.

An order was also made for the forfeiture and destruction of drugs.

A police spokesman said officers from Harrow Borough Crime Squad spotted Hersi acting suspiciously, on December 18 last year, in Maple Avenue, South Harrow, while conducting patrols.

As police approached Hersi, he threw a bag onto a nearby driveway and hurried away, but was later detained and searched.

The bag was retrieved by police and contained a large amount of what was believed to be heroin. Forensic examinations later found the heroin was of nearly 100% purity.

Hersi was charged on December 19.

Speaking after the sentencing, Detective Constable Dan Cannon said: "This is a good result for the community of Harrow and I am pleased that a drug dealer has been taken off the streets.

"This was an extremely large drug seizure, and the quantity and purity of this haul indicate it was destined to be cut, mixed, and delivered through the streets of Harrow as several hundred individual deals.

"We will continue to target drug dealers, and would like to thank the local residents for their overwhelming support in this case."
