A local Harrow resident has been crowned one of Britain's most hopeless cooks and will take part in the annual Disaster Chef competition.

After weeks of searching far and wide, Kenwood have revealed that Harrow resident, Mohammed Abdul Rahman, has been chosen from hundreds of entries as one of the worst cooks in Britain.

Entries came in from all over the country, entered by self-proclaimed disastrous chefs or through nominations from friends and families who have suffered one too many kitchen catastrophes at the hands of a loved one.

Despite having a strong level of attention to detail from his training as a pharmacist, Mohammed is a self-declared catastrophe in the kitchen.

Mohammed struggles to follow recipes and frequently produces meals that are not fit for human consumption.

Becoming a father in 2015 was Mohammed’s watershed moment that made him decide to enter Disaster Chef.

Mohammed will now compete against nine other disastrous chefs in the hope of turning his culinary skills around.

Mohammed’s journey can be followed on the Kenwood UK Facebook page, where visitors can watch his cooking skills and confidence grow over the next six weeks, before he goes head to head in the Disaster Chef live final.

'There is still a long way to go!'

Mohammed said: “I am delighted to be a finalist in the Disaster Chef competition.

“Having recently become a father, I'm keen to try and help my wife by finally pulling my weight in the kitchen and delivering on my promise of cooking something edible at least once a month!

“This seemed a great way of challenging myself and seeing if anyone can learn to cook with some coaching. I'm also keen to surprise my friends and family who find the idea of me being in a cooking competition and cooking for Raymond Blanc in a few weeks time truly hilarious!

“I have had a bit of a bumpy start in the competition so far but there is still a long way to go!”

The contestants will compete for a £4,000 prize package on November 28 in front of a judging panel including renowned chef Raymond Blanc OBE, Great British Bake Off finalist Miranda Gore Browne and Kenwood Development Chef, Martin Johns.

Raymond Blanc OBE, Michelin-Star Chef, Author and Television Personality, said: “Gastronomy is all about creating new tastes, learning new skills and experimenting.

“It’s exactly what we’re doing with the Kenwood Disaster Chef Competition - helping less confident cooks connect with food. We want to equip beginners with the basic tools for cooking and watch them build upon these skills to create delicious dishes.”
