Harrow East MP, Bob Blackman has commented on new figures outlining that 561,000 more people are reportedly in work across London since 2010.

In Harrow East, the Tory MP says the number of people claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance and Universal Credit while not in employment has fallen by 916, which he claims is a 56% drop since 2010.

Average total wage is currently up 2%, with people across Harrow East seeing their wages grow.

With employment at 74%, and the majority of the increase in employment over the last year in full-time jobs, the stats show that more people are in employment since 2010.

The MP claims the Tory economic plan is “creating jobs and growing pay packets for families in Harrow”.

Speaking last month, Bob Blackman said: “Today’s figures are excellent news for local families, marking an important milestone in the road to full employment.

“With employment at the highest rate in our history, wages continuing to grow above inflation, and the unemployment rate now below the level we last saw before Labour’s Great Recession, it’s clear our economic plan is working.

“We can see that here in my constituency of Harrow East, where the number of people relying on Jobseeker’s Allowance or Universal Credit while out of work has fallen by a whopping 56% since 2010.

“Each new job means a worker and their family with the security of a pay packet.”
