Schools are back for the new academic year - but already the all-important school place admissions deadline dates are in.
If your child off is off to primary school or secondary school in September 2018, then you might want to get things under way.
To give parents and guardians who might be overwhelmed at this point a helping hand, here is a guide to get you started with your application.
The online application process to start primary school in reception class or transfer to secondary school in Year 7 for next year, September 2018, opened on Friday September 1.

Starting primary or secondary school?
If your child was born between September 1, 2013 and August 31, 2014, he or she will be due to start primary school reception class in September 2018.
If your child was born between September 1, 2006 and August 31, 2007, he or she will be due to start secondary school in September 2018.
When does the application process start?
On Friday September 1, 2017 the online application process opened for both primary and secondary school places.
When are the deadlines?
Primary admissions: On-time application closing date: Monday January 15, 2018
Secondary admissions: On-time application closing date: Tuesday October 31, 2017
Missing the deadline - what this means for your child?
Applications received after the deadline will be marked as late. This means they will only be processed after the on-time applications.
If you miss the deadline you are less likely to get offered a place at one of your list of preferred schools.
When applying...
- DO get advice from your local authority, attend open days and talk to other parents.
- DO include your local schools in your list of preferences.
- DO list the schools you're applying for in order of preference.
- DO fill out all six preferred school choices.
- DO NOT list only one school as this does not increase your chance of being offered a place at that school.
- DO NOT lie on a form. The information such as where your child lives is likely to be checked.
What if I want to send my child to private school?
Private schools have their own admissions process and procedure. It is best to contact the school and apply directly to them if you wish to send your child to a private school.
