Hammersmith Station was closed for a short period on Thursday (May 25) afternoon following a fire alert.

The station, which is used by District and Piccadilly line trains, was evacuated just after 3.10pm and was closed for 17 minutes before reopening.

Transport for London (TfL) say it was a false alarm.

The station, which is on the District and Piccadilly lines, was closed between 3.07pm and 3.24pm, with trains not stopping at the station.

TfL say there are no delays to services caused as a result of the incident.

The fire alarms comes hours after Ealing Broadway shopping centre was evacuated when a suspect package was discovered.

Police attended and later said the package was not suspicious.

But the closure led to rumours on social media that there was a gunman in the area at the Primark store.

Police were quick to dismiss the rumours.
