A mother has cast doubt on evidence provided by the boyfriend of her daughter after she fell to her death in Westminster.

Pauline Tio says there is no way Georgina Drinkwater would have tried to climb from her third floor balcony in Harrow Road, Queen’s Park to the one below because she was afraid of heights.

Her comments contradict the evidence given by partner Robert Weldon, who had earlier told the inquest she had climbed over the balcony on her own accord following a row.

Mum-of-two Ms Drinkwater fell 33ft to her death on February 23 2014. Mr Weldon was arrested at the time but the Crown Prosecution Service later decided there was insufficient evidence to charge Mr Weldon in connection with his partner’s death.

Ms Tio described her only daughter as “my life and my whole world from the moment she was born” who excelled in her GCSEs and was a private person.

But speaking at Westminster Coroners Court on the first day of the inquest on April 4, she said she noticed a change in her daughter’s behaviour soon after Ms Drinkwater started dating Mr Walden in 2012.

“Within three months I started noticing a change,” she said. “There was, maybe, avoidance of telephone calls and I noticed that she became very isolated.”

Ms Tio claimed that this culminated in her witnessing an incident of abuse in her daughter’s flat when Mr Weldon arrived banging on the door. She said: “He continued and Georgina begged me to get him out of the flat because he would not leave.”

The court heard she told him: “This is my daughter’s flat. You have been violent to her and I want you out of this flat.”

It was then claimed that Mr Weldon branded Ms Drinkwater a “f***ing cow” before taunting her mother about how quickly he slept with her after meeting.

“I told her that I suspected it but she never confirmed it until that day and she then told me about the domestic violence towards her,” said Ms Tio.

Often referring to her daughter as Georgie, Ms Tio also blasted the authorities for letting her Ms Drinkwater down and claimed to have voiced her fears to police 12 months before her death.

'Justice for Georgina'

She told the court that her daughter should have been classed as a ‘high-risk domestic violence person’ who wanted to leave the relationship and move to West Hampstead, where she had lived previously.

She said: “I know that she would not have tried to climb out over the balcony of her own free will,” before highlighted her “need to see justice for Georgina who is no longer here to defend herself”.

At the end of her evidence she turned directly to Mr Weldon and told him: “Nothing will change the fact that you did what you did to her.”

The inquest continues, with Mr Weldon due to give evidence today (Wednesday).
