Grenfell Tower fire: Update on disaster's recovery programme to be given by at full council meeting

The meeting on Wednesday (September 27) evening will also discuss the role of the tower's managing organisation and housing for survivors of the fire

The second full Kensington and Chelsea Council meeting since the Grenfell Tower fire will take place on Wednesday (September 27) evening.

The role of Kensington and Chelsea Tenant Management Organisation (KCTMO) within the borough following the disaster, and the search for suitable accommodation for survivors will be discussed.

The meeting will be held at Kensington Town Hall at 6.30pm, and will include an update on the recovery programme by council leader Elizabeth Campbell.

It will also see the appointment of Labour councillor Beinazir Lasharie as deputy mayor.

The former Big Brother contestant sits on the Notting Dale ward which includes Grenfell Tower and lives on the Lancaster West estate which adjoins the destroyed building.

She was named deputy Mayor earlier this month in a move by the local authority to try and win back the trust and confidence of people in north Kensington.

The last meeting, which saw Cllr Campbell booed and heckled as she was named council leader, came to abrupt end when a survivor from the fire collapsed after addressing town hall denizens.

The meeting takse place at the town hall in Hornton Street.
