Firefighters have been at the front line of the emergency response to the devastating fire at Grenfall Tower but now a union is now also donating £20,000 for the victims.

The Fire Brigades Union (FBU) will donate the large sum from money raised in its weekly Firefighters 100 lottery.

More than 40 fire engines and 250 firefighters responded to the Grenfell Tower fire which broke out on Wednesday (June 14).

Following the initial £20,000 donation, funds from future lottery ticket sales will be used to investigate, research and promote the lessons from the devastating fire.

Fundraisers have been launched across the country following the disaster where the latest death toll is 30 but this is expected to rise.

Matt Wrack, general secretary of the FBU, himself a former firefighter, said: “In over 30 years of working within the fire service, I have never seen a fire like this.

“Firefighters want to do everything they can for the victims. We hope this donation will go some way towards helping those people affected.

“Everyone who plays the Firefighters 100 Lottery will support this decision.”
