Singing sensation Adele interrupted her sell-out show at Wembley Stadium on Wednesday (June 28) to urge her fans to support the victims of the Grenfell Tower fire .

The Rolling in the Deep and Someone Like You singer made the emotional plea as she kicked off the first of her four London shows, asking them to give money to those who lived on the high rise block in North Kensington.

The singer, who has visited victims of the disaster and firefighters who helped tackle the blaze , was speaking hours after police said the death toll is now believed to be around 80.

Adele thanked Chelsea firefighters for their hard work during the Grenfell disaster

Addressed the 95,000 fans at the end of her performance of Hometown Glory, she said: “I want to talk to you about Grenfell Tower because it’s been two weeks now since the fire, and still people who were affected by it are homeless, they have no possessions, they have no access to or communication with anyone official from the Government or council, and worst of all they’re now starting to feel like they’re a burden and that they’re getting in the way.

“Over these four shows I want us to raise money together, it has to be a joint effort,” she said, adding all money would go “directly to the people living in that block”.

Police said on Wednesday (June 18) they may not know the true death toll until the end of the year.
