A primary school expansion in Greenford was one of the winners at London's biggest celebration of architecture and architects awards.

The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) London Awards 2015 recognised 38 winning projects across the capital at the ceremony in the National Theatre on Monday (May 18).

The expansion at Ravenor Primary School, in Greenway Gardens, with the cheerful quality of an adventure playground by Seymour Harris Architecture, was one of the award winners.

Acting headteacher Leonie Lobo said: "The children, staff and governors at Ravenor Primary school are delighted to have received the RIBA award for our Meadow building. This building has been a real asset to our provision and has complemented the high standard of education provided here at Ravenor.

"This award is recognition of the vision and creativity of design by the architect Colin Way and we have been fortunate to work in partnership with such a true talent."

Rising stars on the London architecture scene vPPR Architects took the RIBA London Emerging Architect of the Year Award for Vaulted House, a family house built on the walled site of a former taxi garage, and almost entirely hidden in the middle of a Victorian block in Chiswick.

RIBA London interim director Owen Wainhouse said: “London is an open and international city and has perhaps the highest concentration of design talent found anywhere in the world. Not just in architecture – but right across the creative industries.

"It’s that concentration of talent, exchange of ideas and fierce competition that makes London such an exciting and challenging place for the practice of architecture. This year’s RIBA London Award winners demonstrate the ability of quality architecture to change people’s lives and enrich London’s built environment."

There were 159 entries for this year's RIBA awards, 67 schemes were shortlisted with three arts and leisure winners, 11 schools, university and community winners, 16 residential winners, and eight commercial winners.
