Ealing Council hope The Green in Southall town centre will be developed into more than 500 new homes

The search is under way to find a developer to transform five acres of space in Southall into 500 homes.

The Green, a five acre site, currently comprises of a car park, light industrial units and other non-residential properties.

It is the second major site earmarked for development in the area.

The Green is near to the Waterside Development , which will see more than 3,500 homes built on the former gasworks.

For The Green, Ealing Council is seeking a developer who can help transform the space and provide more than 500 private and affordable homes.

On top of this, it is anticipated the new site will include a public realm, commercial and community space and around 90 to 100 parking spaces to support local shops and services.

Councillor Julian Bell , the leader of Ealing Council , said they hope a developer will get involved with the “exciting” development.

“Ealing Council has a reputation for quality regeneration, and we want to speak to partners who can support our vision for this exciting town centre development,” he said.

“Crossrail is going to transform our borough, connecting local people and businesses with jobs and opportunities right across London, and we are working hard to capitalise on it.

“This transformation of this underused, but significant town centre site is part an important part of this work.”

The site is a 300-meter walk from Southall Station, and will be a prime location for commuters who will use the new Elizabeth ( Crossrail ) Line.

The area is a designated regeneration location, located within a GLA Housing Zone and is situated opposite the Grade II listed Southall Manor House.

Lance Cantor of Metropolitan and Suburban, a private property development company, said the "well-connected" site will be transformed once development is complete.

He said: “We are very excited to be working in collaboration with Ealing Council on this project.

“We are confident that, once completed, it will transform the area by delivering significant social, environmental and economic benefits to this important and well-connected gateway location.”

Metropolitan and Suburban is working with the council to find a development partner by late 2017.
