A Reddit poll asking users who they would vote for in the upcoming Mayoral elections on May 5 has shown Sian Berry and Caroline Pidgeon to be a close second and third to Sadiq Khan.

The Labour candidate was chosen as Mayor by nearly 29% of the internet discussion forum's users, with the Green Party's selected runner in second with just under 27%.

Only 9.6% of the pollsters voted for Conservative candidate Zac Goldsmith as their winner, despite You Gov showing Khan to be steaming ahead with 32% and Goldsmith with 25% in March.

Candidates must receive 5% of the votes cast in order to get their £10,000 deposit returned, meaning party representatives Ankit Love , Peter Whittle and George Galloway would be among the seven who would be out of pocket.

A close second for the Greens, and Liberal Democrats squashed Goldsmith's votes from Reddit users

Voters took to the forum to discuss their choices, with one user commenting "people can afford to go a bit radical in the race" because "the Mayor doesn't do much".

A general consensus of wanting to see a significant change for the city could be seen from the forum, with one user writing: "Can't stand the two from the Labour and Conservative party. I think it's time we have a fresh start."

Another added: "Glad to see Sian well represented among us.

"It's nice to believe that some people will actually vote for a candidate that has new, bold ideas rather than just vague commitments and rhetoric."

Others expressed their reasons for not voting certain candidates, with concerns over Khan's plans to support black cabs and place better controls over Uber, as well as the supposed "£1.9 billion black hole" in his plans to freeze rail fares.

The mayoral role includes overseeing London's police and fire forces, transport, infrastructure and setting the multi-billion pound budget.
