We've all been somewhere new and looking for a bite to eat or a quick drink and turned to Google Maps to find the nearest supermarket or coffee shop.

One of the major pluses to Google Maps is the - sometimes overly - honest reviews, which now includes those who have been apparently reviewing time spent in Her Majesty's pleasure at London's prisons.

The comments on the online map along with a ratings out of five have been posted by people claiming to have spent time at HMP Wormwood Scrubs , Wandsworth Prison, HMP Brixton and HMP Pentonville.

At Wormwood Scrubs in Shepherd's Bush , reviewers gave mixed reviews to the quality of the facility.

One commenter also gave Wormwood a five star review, saying “fish and chips are great” while another said “much better than Russian ones".

Another Google Maps user said: “Loved wormmy proper old skool style pen, I love my stay here year there were a few rottens but guvnor was a laugh.

HMP Pentonville in north London improved on that with 3.9 out of five with 16 people sharing their opinions.

One person was not impressed, saying: “The staff are unfriendly I just looked around and five men jumped on me and took me to a stupid downgraded hotel room.

“The food was horse manure and the bed where uncomfturbale and even worse the toilets had no privacy.

“Never book with Pentonville hotel.” [sic].

HMP Brixton

Another person was more enthusiastic however, saying: “Choices on the menu were limited, but they say there is no such thing as a free lunch, but I would beg to differ.”

On the other side of the Thames at HMP Brixton was rated 2.5 overall.

One commenter said: “Rooms were ok. Screws ok and gym was not bad.

“Really learnt in this place that life ain't all rosy and easy. Never going back ever. I on straight now” [sic].”

The Ministry of Justice was contact for comment but has not provided a statement.
