A 38-year-old Brent resident has been charged with murder after the body of a woman was found in a suitcase in the Grand Union Canal on Sunday (May 10).

Thomasz Kocik of Buckingham Road, Brent, was charged on Wednesday morning (May 13) and appeared in custody at Wimbledon Magistrates' Court later in the day.

He was remanded in custody until his next appearance at the Central Criminal Court on Friday (May 15).

Mr Kocik was arrested on Monday (May 11) along with two other men, who have since been bailed to a date to be confirmed.

Formal identification has not yet taken place, but police believe the victim is 23-year-old Marta Ligman, a Polish national of Buckingham Road, Brent.

Next of kin have been informed, a Met spokesman confirmed.
