Graduates of a youth programme are gearing up for an event focused on climate change and social action.

About 200 participants of The Challenge, a community engagement charity which aims to mix diverse groups of young people, will take part in a series of workshops at the University of West London , Ealing, on Saturday (November 29).

The event called ‘Ignite’ aims to raise awareness of how climate change will have an impact on young people’s futures and the damage humans are continuing to cause to the environment.

The youngsters from Ealing, Hounslow, Hillingdon and Harrow will listen to a TED talk on a ‘future London’ by author Saci Lloyd, and benefit from the presence of representatives from Heathrow, British Airways , Greenpeace and Friends of the Earth who will all set up stalls on the day.

Stephen Piscopo, Senior Assessment Project Manager at The Challenge, said the event will be a balance between informative and interactive, with youngsters splitting up into groups and taking part in workshops.

He said: “There will be a big debate surrounding the issue of climate change with UK Climate Coalition coming to help, an independent film company coming to film the day as something we can keep and share, music playing, and a choreographer to keep people’s energy levels up.”

Mr Piscopo also said there would be an activity where youngsters make pledges for social action.

The Challenge Network is the largest provider of the National Citizen Service (NCS) programme in England. NCS is a Government funded social enterprise initiative that supports community engagement and social integration among young people.
