Passengers were plunged into travel chaos this morning (October 2) after signal failure had affected the district and circle lines.

Before 6am this morning, there was no service between Earls Court and Aldgate East eastbound due to signal failure at Gloucester Road, Transport for London (TfL) said.

People using the circle line also faced severe delays, with the line facing temporary closure as commuters were encouraged to take bus routes instead.

But a good service resumed on the circle line at around 7.25am, along with a good service on the district line shortly after 7am.

Angry people hit out at the delays on social media, with John Conway tweeting: "How can there be severe delays on the district line by 6AM, how can u (sic) possibly going to cope when the rest of London wakes up?"

And Lukman Iqbal said: "Typical, I avoid the District line where possible! Nightmare of a line!"
